Health Secretary focused on job amid rumours of a PM challenge

HEALTH Secretary Wes Streeting has insisted the only job he is focused on is making the NHS "fit for the future" after rumours he is planning to challenge the Prime Minister.

Mr Streeting visited Trafford General Hospital in Greater Manchester on Thursday, as data was released showing overall NHS waiting list figures continued to drop.

Asked if he had a plan to take Sir Keir Starmer's job, he told the Press Association: “As the latest results show, my focus is on doing the job the Prime Minister has set for me for the country, which is getting our NHS back on its feet and making sure it's fit for future.”

He added: “The NHS is on the road to recovery, but I've got my foot down on the accelerator this year.
