Residents moved from 'forgotten' estate as homes demolished

RESIDENTS are being moved out of a “forgotten” housing estate before more than 100 homes are knocked down.

Residents moved from 'forgotten' estate as homes demolished

Plans to revive the Yorke Drive estate in Newark were approved last year, with Newark and Sherwood District Council planning to demolish 130 outdated homes and build 207 new private and social ones.

The estate is blighted by empty and derelict houses, leaving residents feeling “forgotten” and encouraged antisocial behaviour.

The council intends to begin the pivotal transformation in the spring, according to a report to be discussed at Newark and Sherwood District Council's cabinet meeting today.

“In the meantime, existing tenants located within the early phases of the decant programme (phases 1 and 2) [who] expressed a preference to leave the estate rather than wait for a new home to be built, are being actively moved,” the council report said.
