Centre demolition day moves closer

OFFICIAL APPLICATION TO KNOCK DOWN OLD BROADMARSH
MAJOR plans to tear down the remnants of the former Broadmarsh shopping centre have been submitted by its new owner - but a delayed £25 million health centre will have to clear a fresh hurdle.
Homes England confirmed it had bought the abandoned centre, one of the largest vacant sites in any UK city centre, on March 31.
The Government agency, which provides affordable housing, plans to carry out some demolition work and then attract private developers to finish the project.
The development will include 1,000 homes, up to 20,000 square metres of retail, office and community space and create around 2,000 full-time jobs.
It has now asked Nottingham City Council for permission for the demolition. The centre closed in 2020 after former operator Intu went into administration.
