India’s rapid deployment of Operation Amistad to deliver critical humanitarian aid and disaster relief to earthquake-stricken Venezuela exemplifies its emergence as a global first responder and its core civilisational philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family).

Following the catastrophic twin earthquakes (magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5) that struck northern Venezuela near Caracas on June 24, 2026, the resulting collapse of infrastructure left over 1,430 dead and thousands missing. India responded swiftly, demonstrating that its Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) capabilities transcend geographical limitations.

The deployment of such significant medical and physical resources to a Latin American nation reflects India’s evolution from a regional relief provider to a proactive global partner. Following similar recent missions—such as Operation Brahma in Myanmar in 2025 and Operation Dost in Turkiye and Syria in 2023—India has continually demonstrated its institutional readiness to act as the “first responder” to calamities.
