ARUNACHAL TOLL RISES TO 4: Assam flood situation remains grim; one dies, more than 46K affected

The flood situation remained critical in parts of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday, with one person killed in Assam and four deaths reported in Arunachal Pradesh as heavy rain, flash floods and landslides continued to affect large areas of the Northeast.

In Assam, a woman died in floodwaters at Sissiborgaon in Dhemaji district, marking the first flood-related death in the state this year, according to the ‘Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

The ASDMA said over 46,900 people in six districts — Dhemaji, Nalbari, Dibrugarh, Chirang, Lakhimpur and Biswanath — were affected by the floods. Dhemaji remained the worst-hit district with more than 45,800 people impacted.

The number of affected people increased from around 45,500 on Monday as floodwaters continued to inundate villages and agricultural land. Altogether, 221 villages across 10 revenue circles remained under water.
