Police nab protesting Aetas

Police apprehended several Aetas on April 18 near the Mount Pinatubo crater in Capas, Tarlac for alleged violations of local ordinances and national laws, including obstruction of public passage and unauthorized entry into an environmentally protected area.

The incident caught the attention of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, prompting PRO-3 to assure the public that the case is being handled with full transparency, respect for cultural rights, and adherence to due process.
The Capas Municipal Police Station said the arrests were carried out in accordance with police operational procedures to ensure that the rights of those involved were protected.
Police Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, PRO-3 chief, also said their arrest followed procedures and the law.
