Steel industry trailblazer moves into advisory role

MANAGING director of Carmarthenshire steel fabrication company Shufflebottom has stood down after 25 years at the helm of the business.

Alex Shufflebottom is transitioning to a new advisory role with the Cross Hands-based company, which was acquired last year by Embrace Steel Group in a multi-million-pound deal.

The business was established in 1977 by her parents Lorna and Martin Shufflebottom. During her tenure, Ms Shufflebtottom, together with her brother Wesley and business partner Alec Davies, oversaw organic growth of the family business, with revenues doubling to £25m. The business employs 85.

Ms Shufflebottom has been a strong advocate for female leadership within the traditionally male-dominated steel and engineering industry, while also actively mentoring and providing support for young people.
