Fears someone will be killed by speeding drivers
Llanelli Star
|June 04, 2025
A MAN living next to a busy residential road in Llanelli has described it like as an “absolute racetrack” as drivers continue to drive at dangerously high speeds.
The resident said that despite complaining to the police as far back as August 2024 - and even after submitting numerous videos of evidence - nothing has improved.
“It’s absolute madness,” said Leroy Hutchinson, 66, who lives on the road with his partner and daughter. “Probably well before the 20 mile an hour speed limit came in. It’s just been the same.”
Pembrey Road serves as a route for people to go through from Llanelli onwards to Sandy, Kidwelly, Bury Port, finally leading up to Pembrey.
Mr Hutchinson continued: “It’s just never-ending. It’s just a racetrack ... absolute racetrack.”
The vehicles passing through can be heard at night from around 9pm, going “faster than fast”, he said.
“It is mainly in the evenings and you sit in the house and then you just hear them, normally around 9pm to 9.30pm right the way through to midnight, one o’ clock in the morning, two o’ clock in the morning,” Mr Hutchinson said. “The big engines come out, the noisy engines and then it’s just speed.
“They're not even driving fast, it’s faster than fast. It's racetrack speed, 60 miles an hour, 70 miles an hour.”
