Events to mark VE Day's 80th anniversary

CARMARTHENSHIRE will commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day with a number of special events and tributes taking place across the county.
To mark this significant occasion, the Union Jack flag will be flown outside County Hall in Carmarthen, Llanelli Town Hall and Ammanford Town Hall. Additionally, County Hall will be illuminated on the evening of Thursday, May 8 to honour the anniversary.
Residents and visitors are invited to take part in the wide range of events happening across Carmarthenshire to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
The celebrations include a variety of activities such as coffee mornings, parades, and picnics in the park, offering something for everyone.
Pembrey Country Park will mark the occasion on May 4 and 5 with a Second World War Weekend and a 1940s Home Guard display, featuring live music, history exhibits, vintage traders and a tea dance with jive lessons.
Additionally, on May 8, Llanelli's Royal British Legion branch will hold a special service at St Elli Parish Church followed by the lighting of a beacon.
