Option to reuse graves branded as 'disgusting'

RESIDENTS have branded plans to reuse graves in a Leicestershire cemetery as “disgusting”.

The criticism comes after Oadby and Wigston Borough Council shared its “aims and ambitions” through its Cemetery and Burial Strategy covering the next decade.

The council said that Wigston Cemetery, in Welford Road, currently has enough space for about 10 more years of burials, providing “current trends continue” and “cremation remains common”.

Two measures must be considered if the council wishes to continue providing burial space in the area, one of which includes reusing “very old graves” with government approval, or the sourcing of land to extend or create a new cemetery.
