Help to firm after cyber attack 'not free money'

THE government has not handed “free money” to Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and the carmaker will shoulder the burden of support to its suppliers following a major cyber attack, the Business Secretary has said.

Peter Kyle said its support to JLR does not send a message that businesses will be “off the hook” for cyber incidents they may face.

It comes after the government announced in September it would underwrite a £1.5 billion loan guarantee to JLR to give suppliers some certainty over payments, helping bolster the manufacturer's cash reserves.
