Calls for more understanding from police over school pick-ups
Leicester Mercury
|December 01, 2025
PARENTS have called on police to be more understanding of parking problems outside schools instead of handing out fines, with some saying the current pickup traffic problems are "utter madness".
Issues have been noted by Leicestershire Police since September, with Oadby among the areas where patrols have taken place around schools.
At the time, police said drivers were parking "inconsiderately" and "illegally" parking on double yellow lines, resulting in fines being handed out.
We visited Ridge Way in Oadby on Thursday, November 27 to see for ourselves how bad the situation is and talked to parents waiting to pick up their children.
Ridge Way has three schools along it - Beauchamp College; Gartree Highschool and Brocks Hills Primary School.
The impact of having three schools on the same road was clear, with traffic quickly building up and plenty of drivers flouting parking rules by stopping on zigzag lines and double yellow lines.
Local mum Sarah said: "Because there are three schools, the amount of children that get let out at the same time is crazy, so what are parents supposed to do? It's utter madness."
