US on the brink with mass protests over nurse's death

PRESIDENT Donald Trump claimed to not like shooting as he sent his border tsar to Minneapolis after intensive care nurse Alex Pretti was killed by federal agents.

The 37-year-old was shot at least 10 times by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, just 17 days after mum-of-three Renee Good was gunned down in her car.

Candelit vigils have been held for Mr Pretti, whose death sparked huge angry protests in Minneapolis, and other cities such as Chicago, over claims the White House has been untruthful about what happened.

President Trump announced the deployment of Tom Homan to oversee ICE operations Minnesota.

In a Truth Social message, he said the border chief would report directly to him, adding: "[Homan] has not been involved in that area, but knows and likes many of the people there. Tom is tough but fair."

Mr Trump said ICE would be withdrawn from Minneapolis but gave no timeline.
