Keane out to polish up the family jewels

COLIN KEANE is poised to win first prize in racing's version of The Generation Game.

And there’s a lot more at stake than a cuddly toy.

The 31-year-old is in his first full season as No.1 jockey to the Juddmonte breeding empire, whose families have adorned honours boards wherever humans race horses.

Tomorrow, Keane partners Item, a son of Frankel - the home-bred colt who retired unbeaten as the final masterpiece of Sir Henry Cecil's life - in the Betfred Derby.

But first comes Oaks fancy Legacy Link, a ‘niece’ of the great horse.

“When you are putting on those Juddmonte silks, you know these are the sort of pedigrees you are getting the chance to ride” says the Co Meath-born jockey.
