SC slams lower court for citing fake Al rulings

The Supreme Court has taken exception toa trial court order that cited fake rulings generated using artificial intelligence (AI), observing that such decisions based on nonexistent and fake judgments constitute misconduct and impact the integrity of the adjudicatory process and cannot be passed off as an error in decision-making.
‘Taking a strict view of the matter, a bench of justices PS Narasimhaand Alok Aradhe set the ball rolling to ensure normsare laid for judicial officers and judges to be circumspect in avoiding such an eventuality in future. “We take cognisance of the trial court deploying Al generated non-existing, fake or synthetic alleged judgments and seek to examine its consequences and accountability as it hasa direct bearing on integrity of adjudicatory process,” the bench said in its February 27 order.
