Flypast, marches and a show of pride from our Armed Forces
East Coast and The Wolds Target
|June 18, 2025
ARMED Forces Week is set to be celebrated across Lincolnshire next week with events from Sleaford to Cleethorpes and promises to be a worthy celebration of Lincolnshire’s finest who have served their country.
At the last census it was found that North Kesteven has the second highest proportion of serving and veteran Armed Forces personnel living within the community across the UK.
Across Lincolnshire we all recognise the high number of personnel and veterans associated with the air force, but to be fair, there are brave veterans of all three armed services settled across the county.
One veteran of the Royal Navy who lives in Boston, was in service working on Hunter Killer submarines in the 1980s. He was on tour of the South Atlantic during the Falklands War alongside HMS Conqueror which sank the General Belgrano, and described working in clean purified air underwater for weeks at a time.
He said: "The longest I did was 112 days. I've got friends who were on Conqueror too. When you open the hatches after being at sea for a long time, the outside air really does smell quite bad."
