CAMPAIGNERS WARN OF DANGER ON EASTRY'S NARROW LANES
RESIDENTS in Eastry, near Sandwich, have launched an urgent fundraising appeal to hire expert surveyors and legal help to challenge a new development that proposes building up to 100 homes on greenfield land off Lower Street.
Campaign group Eastry Says No argues that the proposal - which includes a new vehicle access point onto the ancient Roman road - is dangerous and unsustainable.
Lower Street is a narrow historic lane which locals already consider a hotspot for accidents.
The group, co-chaired by Penny Wilson, is raising funds to commission a specialist highways surveyor to assess whether the proposed access route is safe or viable.
So far, the fundraiser has gathered £580 toward its £800 target.
