TAX PAYERS will foot the bill for damages suffered by a 28 gang leader in Goodwood prison.
The Western Cape High Court has ordered that the Ministry of Correctional Services is liable for injuries to Nathaniel Hendricks, after a kettle allowed in the cell as a "humanitarian" act was used as an assault weapon.
In the attack boiling water was thrown down Hendricks' throat.
The amount of damages will be determined at a later stage.
