Ten Hag can Ferget being boss for 100 more games on this showing
IMMEDIATELY following Phil Foden's first goal, Erik ten Hag ranted at fourth official Darren England, bitterly complaining that Marcus Rashford had been fouled earlier in the passage of play.
If Ten Hag honestly believes this match contained a shred of injustice, then they were the rantings of a truly deluded manager.
This was Ten Hag's 100th game as boss of Manchester United and despite this latest derby humbling, the Dutchman's win percentage over that period is higher than the one Sir Alex Ferguson recorded when his game-count hit treble figures.
But it is safe to say Ten Hag will not go on to manage another 1,400 United games, as Fergie did.
Let's be honest, the chances of Ten Hag being at the helm for another 100 games are probably slim and none, judging by this latest slab of evidence of the chasm in class between these two teams.
Pep Guardiola's men were nowhere close to their fluent, rapier-like best yet the two-goal margin of victory did scant justice to the champions' overwhelming superiority.
No wonder Ten Hag again turned on his heels at the full-time whistle, this time to escape down the tunnel as quickly as possible.
