Our pressure leads travel insurer to rescue David, 86, from being stuck in Crete hospital

- BY NORMAN SILVESTER

A GRANDAD stranded in a Greek hospital over a dispute between doctors and insurers over his medical treatment is finally getting home thanks to the Daily Record.

David Bloomfield, 86, slipped and fractured his left hip two days into a two-week break in Crete last month after flying out with Easy Jet.

Insurance cover through the airline meant he was able to have an operation to repair the break at the private Creta Interclinic in Crete’s capital Heraklion on September 22.

His surgeon then said he could go home only in an air ambulance or on a stretcher.

Widower David, of Newton Mearns, near Glasgow, says his insurers disagreed and claimed he was fit to travel on a normal flight.
