Sickening assaults on teachers rising

SCOTLAND has the highest rate of violent injuries to teachers in the UK as classroom behaviour nosedives, shock figures show.

Almost 500 reports of serious injuries to school staff were sent to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in a 10-year period up to March 2024, including fractures, dislocations and loss of consciousness.

The number of reports from Scots schools has trebled in a decade - the highest rise of anywhere in the UK.

There were 91 injuries logged in Scotland's school in the latest year, three times the number 10 years before and the fastest rise of anywhere in the UK.

It comes amid a growing demand from teachers and education experts for the SNP government to get serious about the issue of youth violence in schools.
