'Shambolic' welfare bid blast by FM
Daily Record
|July 03, 2025
JOHN Swinney blasted the UK Government's handling of welfare reforms as "chaotic and shambolic".
The First Minister responded after Keir Starmer's government was forced into a last-minute climbdown for welfare legislation to pass its first parliamentary hurdle.
On Tuesday evening, ministers shelved plans to restrict eligibility for the personal independence payment (PIP), with changes now only coming after a review.
The changes are expected to put pressure elsewhere on the UK Government's budget.
