Pupils cheer as snow and ice keep hundreds of schools shut

THOUSANDS of pupils enjoyed an extra day of holiday after schools were shut across northern Scotland by snow.
Classrooms in Shetland, Orkney, the Western Isles, Moray and in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire stayed closed as the icy weather remained locked in place.
Aberdeenshire, Orkney and Shetland councils all announced that schools would remain closed today too.
The weather caused disruption to flights and rail travel, with ScotRail reporting problems around Aberdeen and Inverness for much of the day.
