Nisbet gets Dons off to flier but Armenians peg them back to leave Thelin's men with a huge task to qualify

ABERDEEN now Noah they face a big task to salvage their Conference League dream.

They needed a win against the Armenian champions but had to settle for a disappointing home point.

Kevin Nisbet had given them the lead at the end of the first half but that was cancelled out by Nardin Mulahisejnovic's leveller.

This was definitely a missed opportunity in front of the Pittodrie fans.

It leaves Jimmy Thelin's side with just two points from their opening four games.

If they are to have any chance they are going to have to find a way to win their last two, home to Strasbourg and away to Sparta Prague.

On their current European form that looks unlikely but the Scottish Cup winners have to try and retain hope that they can scramble into the knockout stages.

This was Aberdeen's first European clash against Armenian opposition.

Thelin conceded before the game that it was pretty much a must-win in terms of their qualification hopes for the knockout stages.

It had been a slow if not sluggish start with just one point at the halfway stage.

The good thing was that positive result had come last time out, away to high-flying AEK Larnaca.

They had lost their opening home game to Shakhtar Donetsk then been hit for six away to AEK Athens.

There had been a big improvement defensively in Cyprus and they were looking to use their last three games as a springboard towards qualification.
