Killie stalwart targets cup glory

- BY MICHAEL BAILLIE

KILMARNOCK stalwart Rory McKenzie insists it would be extra special to clinch silverware in his testimonial year.

McKenzie is synonymous with Killie, having spent his whole career with the Rugby Park outfit - apart from a brief spell on loan at Brechin City - and progressing through their academy to make 430 appearances.

The 31-year-old is being honoured by the club with a testimonial season as they celebrate his outstanding contribution to Killie.

However, in his distinguished Kilmarnock career, cup success has so far eluded him - he was part of the side which reached the semifinal against Celtic three season ago - and he would love to change that in the Premier Sports Cup.

Killie take on St Mirren this evening in their quarterfinal clash and McKenzie is determined to get them to the last four and another step closer to a trophy.

McKenzie said: “From a personal point of view to be able to have a cup win, for somebody that's played his whole career here, would be extra special.

“It would be great to win a cup in my testimonial year. I've only had one experience of Hampden and it was one of the best I've had - just the whole build up to it.
