It's now cheers ringing in Gers' ears as Djeidi & Co too hot for Czechs

GASS AND FLAIR

AT Fir Park, he roasted his players.

But last night at Ibrox, Russell Martin's Rangers were cooking with Gass.

The manager's two new wingers, Djeidi Gassama and Oliver Antman, were on fire in their vital Champions League qualifying win over Czech outfit Viktoria Plzen.

Young Frenchman Gassama bagged a brace to make it four goals in three European games for him while £4million flying Finn Antman produced a brilliant debut display.

Martin slated his squad at the weekend, accusing them of being egotistical and selfish.

But there was none of that here, as Cyriel Dessers' penalty added to Gassama's double to put one foot in the Champions League final play-off.

If Rangers can finish the job in Plzen next week, they'll face either RB Salzburg or Club Brugge for a crack at the lucrative group phase.

TOUGH LOVE

Martin claimed his Fir Park evisceration of his players came from a place of love.

But it's unlikely that James Tavernier or Nico Raskin would have felt that when the team was announced.

The manager had to back up his threat by leaving players out who according to him - went into selfpreservation mode on Saturday.

He also praised the likes of Lyall Cameron and Dessers, so his starting XI against Plzen was always going to be an acid test of his leadership.

And boy did he make big calls.

Skipper Tavernier was dropped, along with Belgian star Raskin.

The man the fans love to hate, Kieran Dowell, was also binned and so was Brazilian striker Danilo.
