Cost of fighting employment cases soars to record high

POLICE Scotland has with been hit employment tribunal cases, paying out almost £1million.

The force has been taken to the hearings 143 times in the past five years.

The number has shot up from 15 in 2020-21 to 40 in 2024-25.

In the 2025-26 financial year so far, 17 police and staff including office workers have taken the force or oversight body the Scottish Police Authority to an employment tribunal.
