Charity donations plunge as cost of living crisis bites

CASH Donations drying up

HARD-UP Scots are donating less money to charities as the cost of living continues to hit household budgets.

The value of donations has dropped by 30 per cent in real terms since 2018 and fewer individuals are committing cash, a report by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) said.

Individual giving made up just 15 per cent of the Scottish charity sector's income in 2023, down from 20 per cent in 2018.

Kirsten Hogg, of the SCVO, said the cost of living had dented "people's ability to put their hands in their pocket".
