Budget problems hitting children with more needs

A STRING of families have spoken out after vulnerable youngsters were refused access to school transport in recent months.

A heartbroken father launched a petition in June after East Ayrshire Council removed school transport from other children with additional support needs.

Fraser Jardine, 36, had received a refusal letter for his daughter, Gracie, who suffers from level five cerebral palsy.

East Ayrshire Council said an Alternative School Transport policy was agreed for the coming academic year due to more than 600 children being approved - equating to a projected overspend of £2.4million for 2024-25.
