People will always point to other appointments and argue that there is no need for a new manager to have any previous experience of being at a club. And they're right.

Just look at the job Ange Postecoglou did across the city orthe success Rangers had when Dick Advocaat arrived from Holland. All of that is undeniable.

But I genuinely believe, at this particular stage, my old club desperately needs someone in charge who knows how much it means to these supporters and who connects with them from day one.

Steven Gerrard certainly fits that bill. I don’t know the complexities of his financial position or his family life in the Middle East but theres obviously a reason he’s been living a quiet life in Bahrain over the last year or so.

I don't know if he’s ready to return to the Glasgow cauldron or not. We'll soon find out I suppose.
