A FORMER Conservative cabinet minister has rejected claims that financial support for charities supporting vulnerable people in the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic was inadequate.

Giving evidence to the UK Covid-19 Inquiry, former culture secretary Oliver Dowden insisted the voluntary sector was “considered on its own merits” when it was allocated £750 million in emergency funding in April 2020.
