A VW driver was left with a sinking feeling when parking on a slipway.

Left unattended, the car was swiftly engulfed by the notorious Menai Strait tide.

Alarmed passersby issued a social media alert after spotting waters rising around the part-submerged vehicle. It had been parked on the Porth y Wrach slipway in Menai Bridge, Anglesey.

Online, the driver received little sympathy: multiple signs nearby warn of high tide risks on the slipway and even on the adjacent parking area.

The strait's fast-running tidal waters can rise rapidly and local people know to treat them with respect. The car's predicament attracted quite a few “oops!” and “can't park there” comments.
