Cunha deal was plain sailing... but Red Devils' next move won't be as easy

MATHEUS CUNHA was a relatively simple transfer for Manchester United to complete.

- By STEVEN RAILSTON

Cunha wanted to swap Molineux for Old Trafford, his wage demands were not a problem and the £62.5million release clause could be paid in instalments.

The deal ticked almost every box and it was announced on Sunday, the opening day of the summer window.

Cunha will officially seal his transfer when he returns from international duty with Brazil and his visa is approved, but United will be relieved to get him through the door at the earliest possible opportunity.

The reality is that most transfer negotiations aren't as straightforward because a club could be reluctant to sell, a player might need to be persuaded, or personal demands could be an issue.

There are plenty of moving parts. United walked away from signing Moises Caicedo before he signed for Brighton due to his agent's demands, for example.

Now Cunha has been wrapped up, United will turn their attention to other targets and it's almost guaranteed their next signing will be more complicated than the first.
