Concern over delays on new TfW trains delivery

CONCERNS have been raised about delays in the delivery of new Transport for Wales trains.

The Welsh Government-owned rail operator's chief executive James Price has said there had been around four units less being delivered a day than expected.

He told the Senedd's climate change committee that had impacted on punctuality and reliability.

Last November, Wales' transport secretary Ken Skates said there had been significant improvements in punctuality and reliability during the first quarter of the financial year compared to the same period in the previous year, but that had then declined.

TfW chief executive James Price said it was more a case of "plateauing rather than declining", but said there were large differences between the Core Valley Lines and Wales and Cross-Border services.

While the former had remained relatively stable, the latter had been disrupted, primarily due to extreme weather causing flooding, track washouts, power failures, and damage to infrastructure.
