Gurkha Hari first double amputee to complete summits challenge

- BY HANNAH BRITT

Seventh heaven

Pride of Britain hero Hari Budha Magar has become the first double amputee to finish the Seven Summits challenge, climbing the highest mountain in every continent.

The ex-Gurkha called us after reaching the peak of Mount Vinson in Antarctica, where he planted a Mirror flag, after climbing 16,050ft (4,892m) on prosthetic legs specially created for snow and ice.

He said: "It's an amazing feeling. I don't know how we did it, but the Seven Summits are complete. As someone with a disability a double over-the-knee amputation - I have done the impossible and climbed them all. I feel very emotional."

After losing his legs when an IED blew up in Afghanistan in 2010, Hari reached the depths of despair and tried to take his life.
