Actor still makes a killing 50 years after being eaten on screen

- BY SUE CRAWFORD

The grisly fate of Alex Kintner, who was dragged below the waves and ripped apart by a great white shark, remains one of the most memorable deaths in film history.

But despite only appearing in Steven Spielberg's blockbuster Jaws for three minutes and 42 seconds, actor Jeffrey Voorhees, who played Alex, is still making a killing from his brief appearance.

Or, as Jeffrey, who is now 62, puts it: "It pays to die."

As the classic movie turns 50 this month, he tells the Mirror about how he still earns thousands from attending fan conventions.

He says: "I was a 12-year-old kid who was in the movie for like a minute, but there are some real Jaws fanatics out there.

"They fly me all over the world and pay me in cash at those things - around £10,000 a time."

Enthusiasts flock to his website to buy autographed photos of his Jaws death as well as T-shirts, mugs and limited-edition signed replica lilos, like the one his character paddled on, for £107.

He reveals: "One guy in England just bought 125 photos."

Fans also pay double if he is on Jaws tours and he still gets royalties whenever the film is on TV.
