Kate & Wills' surprise for NHS heroes

Prince and Princess in touching hospital visit

NHS staff and volunteers got a huge surprise when the Prince and Princess of Wales dropped in to a hospital yesterday to thank them.

Kate and William met volunteers from Imperial Health Charity, who help improve care for patients and take pressure off the wider workforce.

Among them at Charing Cross Hospital in West London was Maureen Gilmour, 86, a weekly helper at a chemotherapy day unit, who shared a touching moment with the royals.

She told the couple how patients and visitors spend hours on end there - and Kate replied: "I know."
