Extra police patrols to quell rise in hatred

Home Secretary Suella Braverman declared anyone celebrating Hamas atrocities in Israel must face "the full force of the law".

She demanded police adopt a "zero tolerance for anti-Semitism or glorification of terrorism on the streets of Britain".

Shocking videos emerged of people celebrating the attacks by Hamas militants early on Saturday.

One witness, Charlotte Proudman, described it as "quite possibly the most heinous act of public hate I have seen on the streets of London".

Yesterday rallies in London and Manchester saw crowds waving Palestinian flags while a large poster read "Glory to Palestinans Freedom Fighters".

Scotland Yard has confirmed extra police officers have been deployed to areas with a large Jewish population.

Protect

And Mark Gardner, of Community Security Trust, said police in other areas were following suit. More than 300 British politicians yesterday vowed to protect "the UK's vibrant Jewish population".

The Met is coming under increasing pressure to go further and arrest those celebrating the deaths and kidnappings of Israeli civilians for supporting a terrorist organisation.

Mrs Braverman warned: "Whenever Israel is attacked, Islamists and other racists use Israeli defensive measures as a pretext to stir up hatred against British Jews.
