Cooper's knock has Elworth back on right track

THE best way to get a defeat out of the system is by winning the next game.

- BY RON DAVIES

The Foxes, thanks in large part to a terrific 96 by Dan Cooper, did exactly as prescribed, in what might have been a difficult fixture at Whitmore.

The home side started the day in fourth place, the Foxes in sixth, but Elworth’s display showed marked improvement over the previous week.

Alex Banks lost the toss and Elworth fielded first; they made early inroads.

Jarrod McKay produced one of his most effective opening bursts, bowling opener Piers Copeland (9) and number three Aaqil Mohideen (1) with only 30 on the board.

He followed this by bowling remaining opener, Danyal Hussain for 24 and Whitmore were 41-3. McKay had taken 3-21 from seven overs to give the Foxes a good start.

Saad Qureshi who, joined Whitmore from Burslem during the off-season, steadied the ship, staying at the crease while 174 runs were added.

Saad is a familiar opponent for the Foxes having played against them for Burslem on numerous occasions. With Joe Harrison he shared a stand of 32 which was broken when by Bethan Robinson, Harrison was caught by Harry Newton at backward point. 73-4 is something of a watershed score, it can go either way. But Saad and Muhammad Imran (52) put a different stamp on proceedings.
