BC Rights Committee Demands Immediate Caste Census from Modi Government

The BC Rights Protection Committee (BCHSS) has urged the Modi government to conduct an immediate caste-based census of Backward Classes (BCs) across the country, alongside the general population census.

Addressing the Mulugu district BC Rights Maha Sabha, held at the Retired Teachers Employees Building under the leadership of Muthyala Raju, the Committee's State President Tatipamula Venkata Ramulu demanded that the Centre stop delaying the exercise. Venkata Ramulu pointed out that the last caste census was conducted by the British in 1931, and since independence, no government has initiated a similar effort for BCs. "BCs, who are the backbone of this nation's productivity, continue to remain unaccounted for in official statistics. They are being treated as fourth-class citizens in both public and private sectors," he said. Questioning the government's priorities, he remarked, "When animals and birds are counted, why not BCs?"
