January 19, 2026

Telangana has emerged as the No.1 rice-producing state in India, a milestone widely attributed to the farsighted agricultural policies and irrigation reforms initiated during the tenure of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR).

According to the latest data for 2023-24, Telangana recorded a rice production of 168.8 lakh tonnes, the highest in the country, surpassing traditional rice bowls such as Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. The achievement marks a historic transformation for a state that was once considered drought-prone and heavily dependent on rainfall.
