ACRES ENGINEERING OPENS DOORS TO 170 STUDENTS AND ARMY CADETS
Schoolchildren at Acres Engineering
A SOUTH Derbyshire engineering company welcomed 170 young people as part of National Manufacturing Day.
Acres Engineering, in Melbourne - which makes bespoke engineered products for a range of clients - threw open its doors to host young people from eight schools across Derbyshire and Leicestershire, plus an army cadet group.
The young people were given a taste of life as an engineer, seeing all its processes from design and manufacture to spray painting.
With the help of visitors from the Army Engagement Team, aspiring young engineers were given a practical taster of activities including virtual welding, drone building and flying, assembling a radio and building a freestanding tower.
Acres managing director, Luke Parker DL, said the day was all about celebrating the UK's thriving manufacturing scene and inspiring young people to consider a career in engineering.
