Mice sector keen on major events

With revenue from meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (Mice) likely falling short of the 164-billion-baht target this year, the government is aiming to attract more global events to enhance the economy and promote new destinations, leveraging major infrastructure projects in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) provinces.

Supawan Teerarat, the new president of the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), said the sluggish economy prompted the Mice sector to strengthen its role in attracting economic activities, particularly from targeted industries with high investment potential to generate more local income.

By the end of fiscal 2025 in September, Mrs Supawan said Mice revenue may total 150 billion baht, as corporate meetings from China and other countries declined, while the global economic slowdown reduced company budgets for business trips.

To lift revenue by 5% in 2026, she said the agency will focus on bidding to host the largest exhibitions and conferences across industries, such as Gastech 2026the world's biggest event for natural gas, hydrogen, climate tech and artificial intelligence and the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings, set for Bangkok next year.
