Permission sought for traveller site

Accrington Observer

May 23, 2025

A FAMILY of travellers have applied for backdated planning permission to regularise its use of land at Pendle View Farm in Burnley Road, Altham, as a traveller site.

- BY BILL JACOBS Local Democracy Reporting Service

The 0.27 acre site was previously hardstanding.

John Varey has made the application to Hyndburn Council.

A supporting document says: "This Planning Statement has been prepared to accompany the planning application that proposes to change the use of this existing developed site from an area of hardstanding and an agricultural building used for storage to a mixed use that would include the existing use and one gypsy and traveller family site.

"Access to and from the site would utilise the existing opening onto Burnley Road.

"Overall main purposes of this statement are to outline the proposed development and to demonstrate how the development would represent a sustainable form of development.
