Motorists are warned of further road disruption

MOTORISTS are being warned to face further roadworks and traffic disruption over the next 12 months as gas pipelines across Lancashire are replaced including in Hyndburn.

Cadent, which manages the region's gas network, is investing £75 million into upgrading the North West's gas mains - some of which were installed over 100 years ago. In Hyndburn, 2024 metres of pipe are to be upgraded.

Cadent will modernise around 385km of pipeline in the region - the same height of more than 2,400 Blackpool Towers or the length of 3,600 football pitches. This also includes 120km worth of piping in Lancashire, with Blackpool the biggest recipient with more than 18,600 metres. This is followed by South Ribble with 10,000 metres and Chorley with just under 10,000 metres.
