IDMC – Indigenous Engineering for India's Dairy Backbone
Outlook
|December 21, 2025
Shri Prakash Maheshwari, Managing Director of IDMC Ltd., has been a driving force in redefining India's dairy engineering sector. With over three decades of association with NDDB and IDMC, he has led the company from being a domestic fabricator to a large, reputed solutions provider in the dairy and allied sectors. His vision is to make IDMC the face of indigenous technology, delivering sustainable innovations that empower farmers, strengthen cooperatives, and position India as a global leader in dairy technology.

IDMC was founded in 1978 to serve India's dairy industry. How has that mission shaped the company's identity, and what major changes have you seen over time?
From day one, it was not just about producing equipment, but about enabling India's self-reliance. Back then, a plant processing 1 Lakh litres Per Day (LLPD) was considered a large dairy plant, but today that is seen as small. We have transformed from basic stainless-steel fabrication to making the most modern machinery with advanced automation, providing manufacturing, affordable solutions. This "Make in India" spirit has been in our company's DNA much before it became a national campaign.
IDMC often works behind the scenes, yet your projects are critical to multiple industries. Could you share some examples that highlight your innovative approach?
One of our proudest achievements is setting up a 10 LLPD dairy plant in the UK. An Indian company setting up such a large dairy plant abroad is commendable. The entire equipment was fabricated and manufactured at our factories in Vitthal Udyognagar and exported in less than a year. This feat speaks volumes about our capabilities.
In the recent past, we executed a 5 LLPD multi-product dairy plant for Banas Dairy at Varanasi with the latest technology, and the plant is most modern and energy-efficient. The plant was designed & built within a year of receiving the order and was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India.
Our solutions combine automation systems (SCADA), energy efficiency, and strong post-installation support, helping dairies run their operations smoothly and sustainably.
Recently, we received global orders including a ghee plant in the Netherlands, corroborating the fact that Indian technology can now compete globally.
