JIM HOWICK on smart technology causing chaos for the Jessops, sitcom success, and, er, scones...

- VICTORIA WILSON

In a JAM!

Jim Howick is considering an important question when TV Times joins him for afternoon tea at a stylish London hotel: should cream or jam be spread first on a scone?

‘It depends on the temperature of the scone,’ smiles the Ghosts and Death Valley star, 46. ‘If it is too warm, then the cream just melts. My wife is from Devon and firmly believes it's cream first, but I'm not so polarised - it all goes down the same way!’

Our tranquil surroundings are a far cry from the chaos ahead for Jim in the third run of BBC1 sitcom Here We Go.

The seven-parter finds his character, hapless police constable Paul Jessop, still trying to gain the respect of his peers, while navigating the fresh collection of calamities that befall his clan, which includes neurotic wife Rachel (Katherine Parkinson), sarcastic daughter Amy (Freya Parks) and her loyal girlfriend Maya (Mica Ricketts), stoic son Sam (Jude Morgan-Collie) and Paul's cheerful mum, Sue (Alison Steadman). Adding to the disorder are Rachel's needy brother, Robin (show creator Tom Basden), and his high-maintenance wife, Cherry (Tori Allen-Martin).

Here, Jim talks us through the mayhem and mishaps...
