Kalwyna Rathod tells you how to go about choosing a career based on your skills

FIND THE RIGHT PATH FOR YOU

Like most things in life, choosing a career isn't easy. If it makes you feel better, know that not everyone nails it on the first try! Embrace the journey you're about to set sail on, guided by your intuition and valuable advice from the pros.

FIRST, BE EMPLOYABLE

"Out of the 13 million individuals who enter India's workforce annually, alarming statistics from the World Economic Forum reveal that only one in four management professionals, one in five engineers, and one in 10 graduates are employable," states Delhibased Asit Rath, CEO and MD, Aviva India. "This highlights the inadequacy of the theoretical knowledge provided to students. If this trend continues, we might face a situation where there are numerous degree holders but not enough skilled professionals." To address this, Asit recommends that educational institutions prioritise teaching present-day job readiness skills and shaping students into competent professionals who meet industry demands. "Roles such as social media expert and big data specialist that were once less sought after are now vital in fields such as marketing, operations and human resources," he points out. "These skills have become essential in today's rapidly evolving technological landscape." The takeaway for aspirants: Go beyond textbooks and degrees; make yourself employable.
