The Special Yellow Flowers
Champak
|February Second 2025
Wuffy rabbit was getting ready for school. He slung his backpack on his shoulders, and cheerfully said goodbye to his mom before heading out.
The weather was delightful—vibrant flowers bloomed everywhere, and the fragrance of Spring filled the air. Wuffy hopped to his favourite spot where he always found the special yellow flowers.
Upon reaching there, he was taken aback. There were no yellow flowers that day! This had never happened before, and Wuffy was disappointed.
“How will I write the maths test without the yellow flowers?” he murmured to himself and began walking towards school.
At school, his classmate Browny bear saw Wuffy looking glum and approached him.“What’s wrong, Wuffy? Why do you look so sad?”
“Browny, I’m going to fail the maths test today,” Wuffy replied in a low voice.
Surprised, Browny said, “No way. You have been scoring well in all the tests so far!”
Wuffy responded gloomily, “Not at all. You know I did not score high marks in the mid-term exams. If I have scored well after that, it is only because of those yellow flowers.”
“Yellow flowers?” Browny was amused. “Really? Where did you see them?” Wuffy asked eagerly.
“Don’t tell anyone about this,” Wuffy took a deep breath and explained, “One day, while returning home from school, I narrowly avoided stepping into a pothole. Next to it, I found a plant with beautiful yellow flowers. I crushed their petals, and a purple sap oozed out. I thought of extracting this and filling my pen with it. When I wrote with that ink, my handwriting turned out so beautiful! Not only that, my answers also began to flow. But this morning, someone had plucked all the yellow flowers and I got none. What will I do now!”

The Park Came Alive
The Koi fish living in Sangam Pond of Munia Park had lately become very sad. No one came near their pond anymore, while earlier, the place used to be full of morning walkers. In the evenings, women and children would gather there. The park always remained lively with people’s chatter and laughter.

GRAVE MISTAKES
“Here’s your new school,” Dad said as he pulled over at the gate of Silver Pines School. Courtesy of his dad’s frequent job transfers, Omi is always the new student. This was his fourth school in the last eight years. Standing at the gates of his new school, clutching his bag, he tried not to look nervous. His family had just moved to the town a week ago, and everything still smelled new—new books, new uniform, new trouble.
