It's glitz, glamour and gongs at the Critics' Choice Awards, where British and Irish stars rule the roost as Hollywood's awards season begins with a bang

TIME TO SHINE

It is the glittering event that kickstarts the annual Hollywood awards season, attracting glamorous A-listers from the worlds of both film and TV. And at this year's Critics' Choice ceremony in Los Angeles, it was the British and Irish stars who were the toast of the town.

Ruling the roost at last week's star-studded event, they took home some of the biggest honours for their work and earned places on best-dressed lists at the celebration, which was held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica.

West Sussex-born actress Erin Doherty, 33, won unanimous praise from fashion experts for the teal inverted Louis Vuitton custom-made gown she wore to pick up her award for best supporting actress in a limited series for her role in Netflix's hit drama Adolescence.

Jessie Buckley, who hails from County Kerry in Ireland, was also lauded by style critics for her fashion-forward trousers and loose shirt by Dior as she took home the best actress award for her role in Hamnet.

And Owen Cooper, Erin's young co-star in Adolescence, proved to be one of the most popular guests at the celebratory dinner.

Stylish in a leather jacket and trousers by Bottega Veneta, the 16-year-old made the most of the networking opportunities, chatting to fellow stars including Jacob Elordi and taking a selfie with Timothée Chalamet.

Owen, who hails from Warrington in Cheshire, was named best supporting actor in a limited series, becoming the youngest person ever to win a Critics' Choice Award - but he later told waiting journalists that he was determined not to let the overnight fame go to his head.

\"Mushrooms go really well with matcha, especially when helped along with a little butter, as in this recipe. Shiitake and shimeji mushrooms are used here, but this risotto would work equally well with chestnut mushrooms.\"
